An Aussie Mum has found a creative solution to a common parenting problem, launching Oh My Frankie – a magnetic wall decal that doubles as a canvas for children’s artistic expression.

Madeleine Nott, like many new mums, was struggling with the transition from one child to two. “I was looking for activities to occupy my toddler, Frankie, while I put her little brother down for his naps. Unfortunately, my little girl decided drawing on the walls was her choice of entertainment,” Madeleine said.

“It was just exhausting. Trying to look after a newborn and a two-year-old, missing my old identity and then having to scrub the walls nearly every day. It was really overwhelming.”

One night, while up settling the baby, Madeleine discovered a product on Instagram that sparked an idea. It was a magnetic wall decal that allowed for creative play on the walls without the mess.

“It looked amazing, but it wasn’t available here in Australia,” Madeleine explained.

“I was struggling on maternity leave because I really enjoy work and having the space to do my own projects. That night I started a mission to create a similar product to save my walls, and hopefully help other Australian families.”

After several months of research, calls, and emails with manufacturers, Madeleine successfully launched Oh My Frankie in January 2024, the first product of its kind in Australia.

The product is a magnetic arch wall decal that adheres to any wall. Its magnetic surface allows children to decorate it with magnets, but its unique coating also makes it suitable for chalk, whiteboard markers, crayons, and water-based textas and paints. Once the artwork is finished, parents can easily wipe it clean.

“It’s made a massive difference. We used to have easels and drawing boards, but they were always in the way, and I needed to make space in the playroom for our second child. As it turned out, Frankie preferred the walls anyway,” Madeleine said.

“This wall decal is unobtrusive, looks aesthetic, and Frankie loves that she is allowed to draw on the walls now. The wall decals are so easy to install and remove, so they’re perfect for rentals and can easily be moved around the house.”

In just seven months, Oh My Frankie is on track to make six figures a month by November and has already generated $75,000 in revenue to date.

The product has also caught the attention of influencers and celebrities, including Molly Bernard and Amy Hembrow.

“I have been blown away. I sold out of the first stock within weeks without any paid marketing. I then got a wholesale order and that wiped me out. Now, I’m doubling my orders each time, and I just keep selling out. I feel so lucky that the demand is there for this product,” Madeleine said.

As her ‘maternity leave side hustle’ continues to gain momentum, Madeleine plans to focus on more wholesale opportunities and expand her product range. A silicone drawing book is next on the cards.
